Happy Hump Day! How is this Wednesday treating you? I’ve definitely got enough work to keep me busy, but I realize that even with keeping myself busy, my heart is just hurting. I know that death is something that takes time to get over, but sometimes I just wish I could turn my off my brain + emotions and be a robot, LOL. I realize it could be so much worse, but nevertheless, I am in it and I know I just have to go through it. I’m super thankful for work and the new projects I am working on though! GATHER South is swiftly approaching and the RSVP’s are flowing in. I’m excited to come together with other entrepreneurs in support of each other and our businesses!
Excitement abounds!! Got the keys to my new workspace!!
Picked up the keys to my studio! After school yesterday the kids and I drove out to pick up the keys and do a little bit of last minute measuring. I’m so excited I could pop! This weekend will be filled with painting and moving. It’s definitely an answered prayer. God is so good. I’ve been gradually checking off things from my vision board in the last few years and it feels so amazing! I hope you are all having a wonderful weekend, but most of all I hope you are all reaching for your dreams. Just know that no matter how far away they may seem, they are still within reach.
Do you have a working vision board or a book that you put your dreams + goals in?
South Pasadena, the new location of my design studio + showroom!!
Hey guys! Hope all is well in your world. Things have been crazy busy lately and I have been doing a lot of plotting, planning and a lil bit of packing over here. Why you ask? Well, I’m super excited to share with you that, come Friday, my “bedudio” (the word I made up for the “bedroom studio” that I have worked out of for the last few years) will close it’s doors to all working activity. Don’t fret, what that actually means is that I am gearing up to move said “bedudio” into a real. live. workspace. that is NOTinside, near, adjacent to, attached or even in the same city as my bedroom! It’s definitely a milestone for my business and something I have been diligently working towards and praying about for some time now. I’ll be sharing more about it and bringing you guys along for the ride in the coming weeks. In the meantime, have a happy Wednesday!!
The magic corner in my bedroom studio . . . or “bedudio” as I like to call it . . .
I recently had lunch with a few creatives and we got to talking about the ins and outs of running a fashion business. We talked a lot about social media, and how it is playing a crucial role in our businesses in different ways. One of the women in the group asked me who takes the photos for my instagram account. I kind of chuckled when she asked me, because at the moment, having someone else photograph + curate my Instagram account is not something I can do, but I was flattered that she thought the images were something I was outsourcing. I explained to her the reality of my photography set up which usually consists of the following . . .
1. bedroom floor
2. window (I use natural light only)
3. products and
4. cell phone to snap the shot.
I dream of the day when I am able to shoot my collection in a studio, with light boxes, backdrops and props, but for now this is what I have and I make the best of it, and thats what a lot of creatives are doing. The thing is, we usually just see the end result… the perfectly staged photo or scene. We don’t always see what it takes to get the shot. Since I am usually shooting when the kids and Rob are at school, theres no one to take a pic of me balancing on the edge of my bed and shooting down on top of the bags, or crouching down to get the shot while trying to keep my feet and knees from making a guest appearance in the corners of the image. It’s pretty amazing what we can create with our phones and laptops these days. It’s also amazing to see how it’s done. I’ll be sharing a little more of the behind the scenes process in the coming months.
This is pretty much the extent of my life for the next 2 weeks. The design process for me is like birthing a baby, maybe a little less painful, but soooooo unbelievably rewarding in the end!! I am so happy to be able to do the thing I love on the daily. Keep reaching for your goals guys. They are within your grasp. xo
