3 Days of Sheer MAGIC . . . Walking the Shows Day 2

It seems crazy that I am going to be in (hot-ass) Vegas, and all my outfits consist of  long pants and jackets, but I get cold relatively easy, and it’s always freezing in the convention centers and meeting rooms!  Because my goal is to keep my feet from cramping up after walking and standing on them for hours, I think wedge hi tops are a great go-to because they are fashiony and relatively comfortable.

How do you solve the conundrum of merging comfort w/ style in your wardrobe?

Camping 101 | Lessons Learned . . .

We went camping for the first time 2 weeks ago. Up to this point, my only experience with camping was sleeping in a tent in the backyard of a friend’s house for a few hours when I was 9. (It got too “chilly” and we decided to come in and reclaim her bedroom). Our friends, Tandalaya & Warren are avid campers, and they invited us up to their campsite to hang out with them and their kids. All of us were really excited to experience nature up close and personal. We drove up to Leo Carillo State Beach, in our car packed to the hilt with snacks, a tent, blankets, pillows, changes of clothes, bathing suits and towels. When we got there it quickly became apparent to me that we were camping novices!! Upon walking up to the campsite and viewing the cozy layout, 2 things were made very clear to me:

1. Our tent was pretty small for 4 people.

2. Camping requires ALOT of packing, planning, unpacking and organization!!

So here is my camping experience in bullet form, to briefly share our trip:

  • Overall feeling: Love camping; Underlying feeling: Camping is not as fun without the right stuff!!!
  • Don’t skimp on the blankets: Didn’t bring enough blankets so Rob and I froze all night.
  • Must. Get. Larger. Tent. -preferably one with 2 rooms (Yes! they have those, even ones with 5 rooms and screened porches!!)
  • Always check to be sure the ground where you are setting up your tent is LEVEL. I awoke with a pretty bad back ache because I had spent the night trying to keep myself from rolling onto Nadiya! The slightest incline makes a world of difference in your sleep.
  • You can have a blow up bed to sleep on in your tent??? WOW!!! Note to self: must research . . .
  • Get Warren’s rib recipe!! Total mouth-watering yumminess!!
  • Eating ribs with a plastic knife and fork (due to braces): not so fun.
  • Hatred of public restrooms: CONFIRMED. My natural aversion to public areas of waste deposit is in tact.

There were many highlights of our trip, (funny Jamaican ghost stories, good conversation & of course, good food) but I think the one that stands out most is being awakened at 4am by an overly-excited bird I had never heard before. It made the most interesting sound, and was very adamant about doing it right outside our tent. I don’t know what he was singing about, but it sounded ALOT like “McDonalds!  . . . McDonalds! . . . McDonalds!” I’m not a fan of McDonald’s food at all, but that bird could make alot of money if the McDonald’s PR peops found out about him!!!

We had a fantastic time and we are going to do it again next year. But this time, we will invest in a larger tent, and be sure NOT to set up our tent on an incline!!

Have you ever been camping before? Did you like it?

Beaches . . .

Happy Friday yall!!! Today I am meeting with my web designer to begin work on my new website! This has been a long time coming. I’m so excited! It’s so great to be taking those little steps toward the bigger picture.  Have a fantastic Friday, and a wonderful weekend! xo

Life in Pictures . . .

And so another month comes to a close . . . Hard to believe we are so quickly approaching the month of August!! It’s amazing how fast this summer is going! Nevertheless, this has been a good summer. Last week our cousin from Chi-town came to visit. It’s been about 25 years since I last saw him . . . and that’s pretty damn amazing considering I am only 27!!! Lol. Anyway, we don’t have much family on the West coast, so it was fantastic to catch up and reminisce. July has been filled with good food, family time, fun outings and time spent with loved ones. There is nothing better. This week we gear up for our first family camping trip! We are meeting some dear friends up in Malibu for a little fun in the sun. We’re all really looking forward to it. And since I am not taking any work with me, I am posting this now, that way I know I’ve done my due diligence and completed the month on the good foot! As I look back, I can see there are a few things I am not able to cross off of my July Goals list, but I guess that’s what August is for!!

Have a great Tuesday and keep reaching for the stars!!! xo

MAGIC Show Las Vegas: Snapshot Overview

The road to MAGIC . . .

Riviera Hotel & Casino (the picture I saw online when I booked the hotel . . .)

The view that apparently comes with the “Early Bird Booking Special” . . . Never Again!

Questionable Ice Cream Ad @ Caesar’s Palace (umm, maybe my dirty mind is working overtime?)

Nikki & I grabbing a bite to eat @ the Wynn . . .

Liquid signage @ the Sourcing show . . .

The Road Home (Phase I)

The Road Home (Phase II)

My trip was wonderful. Despite the crusty remote in the hotel room, the fact that I probably inhaled the smoke of what would amount to 9,000 cigarettes while walking through the casinos, and the fact that we couldn’t find a good meal under $29, Nikki and I had a great time and made some really good contacts. I attended a lot of inspiring seminars and met some great people. I’m really excited about the future and about implementing the knowledge I gained during my time @ MAGIC. It was also great to spend time with Nikki, I think I laughed more in 4 days than I have in the last 2 months combined!  . .  well, maybe that is an exaggeration, I tend to laugh a lot!

p.s. I am realizing as I post this, that I did not take very many photos of the actual show. I think this points to the fact that I am still learning to think like a blogger, and that includes thinking about what people would like to see!! I promise to include more “action shots” in my next industry event post!! ☺

Mood Board Mondays (on Tuesday): Road Trip!!! Viva Las Vegas!

This week I am gearing up for this Sunday’s trip to Vegas for the MAGIC show. I will be driving out with my friend Nikki.  My brain is all afflux, trying to put together comfy-chic wardrobe choices for the trip. I always pack in my head before I actually physically put cloth to luggage. There will be a lot of walking, seminars, appointments and, dare I say, eating. I wish I could say I was a gambler, but I never go higher than the .25 slot machines. (Do they still have those?) I have a hard time throwing money away, I’d rather give it to someone who needs it! Anyway, I’m looking forward to making new contacts, garnering info from the seminar series and checking out the new lines. I’m also looking forward to a change of scenery. I get very antsy if I am not able to see something different every few weeks. Nevertheless, there is tons of stuff to do here before I roll out. Kids need Valentine’s Day cards, birthday gifts for a party on Sunday, patches sewn on new karate gi’s, library books found . . . I could go on, but I will save you my laundry list of chores. I hope you are having a fantastic week so far!
