Thank God it’s Thursday! This week seems to be flying by! My days and weeks have been so different since we started homeschooling Reston. The results of homeschooling on my son have been so wonderful in such a short period of time! It really is amazing. It’s funny, although my days are structured differently, I somehow seem to be getting it all done. It doesn’t always look pretty, and my work time is typically not structured the way I like it to be, but when I look back, I can see that I am still making progress.
Next week I will be going to Vegas for a few days to cover the MAGIC show. I’m really excited about this trip. Usually I attend MAGIC for the purposes of sourcing and networking for my own business. But this time I am attending as Press! One of my passions is discovering and promoting new and existing brands, and sharing them with you. God is putting these opportunities in my path and I am really excited to be able to pursue them!
With that said, I thought that for this Thankful Thursday, I would list a few things that I am thankful for today. I heard a man once say that a blessing is something that means something to you. I feel like I have many blessings to be thankful for. They may not seem like much to others, but I think its always good to take note, recognize and be thankful for the little things.
TODAY I AM THANKFUL FOR:
Reston’s progress and witnessing the return of the joy of learning!!! Super BIG Yay!!!
My family’s health and happiness
My trip to Vegas next week and the opportunity to cover the MAGIC show
My desire + passion to design and create is returning full force. (another Super BIG Yay!!!)
Morning adventure walks with my son! (see photo above ☺ )
My marriage of 11 years. It ain’t always easy, but the hard work is so worth it!
Inside jokes and giggles with my kiddos
My mom and dad being so supportive and helpful with the kids pick ups and drop offs
Being 5 months gluten free. If someone had told me I would be GF a year ago I never would have believed them.
It’s our anniversary!!!As of 4 pm today, I will have been married for 11 years! A milestone some may say. But i’ll let you in on a little secret. September 21st is the date Rob and I got married in front of all our friends and family. And although that is the date we celebrate as our anniversary, we actually got married in Vegas on January 3rd, 2002. I got the crazy idea in my head that I wanted us to have a secret from the rest of the world. So I suggested we run off into the night and get married and not tell anyone. It would just be our little secret. Well, we did. And we kept that secret, pretty much. I don’t know what it is about secrets. Sometimes they can be sooo good.☺ Anyway, it’s been an amazing journey. There have been many lessons learned on both sides, and we are still growing. I thank God for the life He has blessed us to create together and I’m looking ahead with excitement toward our future!
Hola Amigas!!! So much going on this month! We’ve been everywhere, from the mountains to the ocean. Part of the reason I love California is that you can experience those two extremes in the same day. Over the course of this month we have been blessed to spend time with lots of friends and family. The weekend before last we went to Legoland with some good friends of ours. It was our first trip with another family with kids. Such a blast!!! It’s great to have another family you can travel with without any drama!!! Kids had a ball, and Nadiya even experienced her first roller coaster ride!!! Thank God for Dads. Coasters are NOT my thing. Rob gets major points for that one! Speaking of Rob, he started off the holiday weekend with a fab performance @ The Gate in Encino. It really was an amazing show. He brought the house down and left us wanting more!!! For Memorial Day we spent time with my bro and his fam @ the beach. Good food, ocean breezes and loved ones. A combination that can’t be beat. I hope your holiday weekend was amazing. I’ve got great things brewing on the business homefront!! I’m so excited, can’t wait to share! #itsgettingcloser
Have a wonderful Tonday!!
(Feels like Monday but it’s actually Tuesday!!! YAY!!!!)
Hey guys! I trust life is treating you wonderfully!! To all my Mommies out there, Happy Belated Mother’s Day!!How did you choose to spend your day of recognition? I had a fantastic weekend. On Saturday I had a girl’s day with my friend Nikki. It’s been a minute since we hung out. We spent the day in LA, visiting some of my fav shops on Melrose. Btw, Melrose Ave is NOT what it used to be. It’s been a few years since I visited Melrose, and it wasn’t the same even then, but I won’t complain too much because my favorite stores Wasteland + SLOW are still there. Wasteland was having a major sale and I scored 3 great pieces that I had been searching for. You know how you have a running mental list of key items that you want to add to your wardrobe? I love that I found 3 of them all at once!! Happy Mother’s Day to me!! Anyway, we had lunch @ a great Mediterranean restaurant called Cayenne on Beverly. BEST. GREEK. SALD. EVA.!!! It was such a beautiful day. I was even able to squeeze in some location scouting for the photo shoot when we got back to Pasadena. Sunday was family day. What a blessing it is to spend time with the ones you love. Couple that with great food and weather and you got a very happy me!!! What did you guys do? I hope you were able to spend your weekend exactly the way you wanted to . . . . and now it is already WEDNESDAY!!! I can hardly believe we are already @ mid-week!!!
Hey, can you keep a secret? Earlier this week I received some images of the new samples from the factory!! I will share a sneak peak with you tomorrow. This is so exciting!!! Progress makes me happy.
Well, I hope your Wednesday is fabulous. Go forth and create!!
April is full of birthdays of people I love. Today happens to be my brother’s birthday! In honor of him I am posting the new trailer for the movie The Great Gatsby which features a song he wrote + produced for the soundtrack. The song features Fergie + Q-Tip.
In highschool we had to read The Great Gatsby for English Lit. I gotta be honest, it was not one of my favs. But the previews and trailers for this movie look amazing! I am really excited to see it, and even more excited that my brother was asked to be a part of it. He continues to inspire me and make me proud every day + I love him dearly. . . . of course this was not always the case. He was QUITE ANNOYING as a younger brother. During our elementary, jr. high and high school days, he basically lived to torture and irritate me. He could make me madder than anyone else on earth! Even he will admit that his favorite form of entertainment (other than Super Mario Bros.) was seeing how mad he could make me. Unfortunately, at the age of 12, I had yet to master the act of playing it cool. Growing up, we were always supportive and protective each other. My mom even says we “spoke our own language,” and that when we’d get together, it was hard for her to get a word in. We had inside jokes that we’ve carried on to this very day. But when we got to college, that’s when I feel like we REALLY became friends. There’s nothing I wouldn’t do for him and vice versa. It’s a real blessing to have that and I don’t take it for granted. It’s been a joy to watch him grow into the man he is today.
So on that note, Happy birthday Goon!!!! I love you!!!

Hello friends + Happy Monday! Today happens to be my dear friend Loreta’s birthday. In honor of her, I am doing this post to share some of her blessed talent with you. These beautiful images were taken by Loreta of Earthtone Photography. I did an interview with her back when the blog was a newbie. God brought Loreta into my life on my son’s first day of Kindergarten. Her amazing daughter Olivia was in the same class as Reston. After dropping off our kiddies we struck up a conversation and ended up standing outside the school talking for 3 hours straight!!! Needless to say, we quickly formed a sibling-like bond. I could go on and on about the similarities we share, and the differences that make her an inspiration to me. But that is for another post. I just wanted you guys tosee how utterly talented she is. We did this photo shoot last summer. It was so much fun working with her. I have so much respect for people who photograph children + babies. It takes A LOT of patience and a great personality. Loreta has both, and she worked her magic on our shoot. It really was a joy to watch her in action. I’m super excited to be working with her again as we gear up to shoot the new handbag line in the next few weeks. I’ll be sure to keep you posted on that project. I can’t wait!!!! I also can’t wait to get these fab photos up on my walls!!! Happy Birthday Lo. You never cease to amaze me!!!!
Spring break is off to an amazing start for the kiddies. They haven’t been home much and they are loving it! Yesterday they spent the day with their cousin and had a spur of the moment sleep over. Uncle Jamahl took them to the beach late in the evening (I opted out of this adventure because it was soooo windy and cold. The thought of getting sand in the fro was extremely unappealing). He texted me back this picture and I just fell in love. I love kids. I love how cold, sleet, sandstorms, hail or thunder doesn’t mean a thing to them. They wanted to get in the water and ran straight for it. It didn’t matter that they did not have a change of clothes, that their shoes and socks would be wet, that they would be cold upon exiting the water and have to spend the rest of the evening in their underwear! I love that about children. It’s something I have to remind myself that I used to have, and can have again if I choose to let go. So that was my lesson learned yesterday.
Maybe a fro full of sand isn’t so bad after all. ☺
Hello beautiful April dwellers!!!! I hope this month finds you living well! Hard to believe it is already April. Spring is definitely in the air. My firstborn will turn 8 years old tomorrow!!! He has matured so quickly in the last few months. It’s amazing to watch, and a blessing to be able to partake in.
On other fronts, God is really working with me on that virtue they call patience. This past month has really been a training ground for it, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. Happy to say I am passing the tests, but it is a minute-by-minute, second-by-second battle. Actually as I write this, I’m not so sure the endurance training I am partaking in is for patience, if I am honest with myself, and at this point in my life, why be otherwise . . . it seems my endurance training is more about letting go and letting God take the reigns. Perhaps it is more a test of faith. I used to think that when you had faith you just didn’t have concerns or worries about your daily situations . . . that you just said to yourself… “No matter, God will take care of it!” What I’ve learned is that that is the correct response, however, you do still have concerns and worries. You just don’t let them hang around as long as you once may have! The concerns, and critical thoughts definitely still pop into your head, but when they do, they should be swiftly dealt with. I do it by telling them to leave and reminding them that God is the source of my supply, and that no weapon formed against me shall prosper!!!These days that’s the way I am handling things. It definitely feels good. But don’t get me wrong, it is still a minute-by-minute battle for me. Does that ever change? Just wondering . . . .
Do you like the image I posted above? I was recently commissioned to create a poster of this quote from an unknown source. I absolutely love this quote. Is this not an amazing way to start the day? I love the idea of attacking something with enthusiasm!!! I made one for my client and myself. Now I have a friendly reminder to look at in the morning when I am getting dressed for the day. What words do you speak to yourself to start your day? Whatever words you choose, I hope they are words of love + encouragement, because you deserve it!!!
