I want Autumn to be here so bad it hurts. Regardless of the fact that it is 95+ degrees outside,
I desire to be COZY.
I am voraciously craving all things warm, homey and wintry . . . slouchy sweaters, furry blankets, boots, fireplace logs & the smell of firewood, hot tea and cinnamon, fuzzy pillows, chunky scarves and candlelight. Autumn/Winter is my favorite time of year and I am awaiting that first cool wintry day with all the depths of my soul. . .
I happen to think Donna Karan is one of the great womenswear designer’s of our time. Her aesthetic is something I can really relate to. I adore her use of color, texture and draping. I often gravitate to her clothes, and find myself wishing I had a closet full of her designs. The above photos are backstage images captured by Jamie Beck & Kevin Burg of the ever inspiring From Me to You blog. Below are images of Donna’s offerings for Spring 2013 from her recent showing last week during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week:
Etro’s gold plated Swarovski crystal armor ring is a long fingered gal’s dream!!! This ring is stunning and sparkly. I am in love with the smokey-gray crystals!! They are so elegant next to the gold. Yet again, my finger aches for this baby. I love her. I must find a way to make her mine!!!!! ☺
I’m up working on my blog and website. Kids are down, hubby is working downstairs. All is well . . . or so you would think. I have tons of stuff to do and it just hit me like a ton of bricks that I AM TIRED!!!!! Ugh!! What to do? Work through the bone-tiredness or call it an (early) night and hit the sack, forgoing at least 3 hours of solid kid-free quiet time . . . The on-going dilemma of a work-at-home mom continues . . . .
I’ve been a fan of Duro Olowu’s dresses for many years now. His use of printed fabrics in contemporary silhouettes makes it easy for anyone to incorporate prints into their wardrobe. Here are a few highlights from his showing for Spring 2013 during New York Fashion Week yesterday . . .
I know the last 3 posts are bordering on print overload, but please bear with me! ☺ These posts are coming from a girl who has had an undying love of prints for years. When I first started my clothing line I was making dresses and skirts from hand dyed African brocade and Vlisco dutch wax prints. I had many people & some retailers tell me that the prints were “too bold” . . . “too colorful” . . . “not what customers were looking for” . . . yet when I wore my dresses in public, both then, and even now, women would stop me in the street and ask where I got my dress from. I guess I am just relishing the fact that the day of the print is here, and I am loving every moment of it!

I hate to say this, but so far I have not seen anything really jaw-droppingly amazing coming out of New York Fashion week. It’s only the 3rd day though. I have seen some nice things, but so far, I’m loving what I’m seeing on the streets more than what I’m seeing on the catwalks! . . . Stay tuned!!!
Happy Friday guys! I know I have not been very vocal this week. This was the first full week of the kids being back in school. Also the first week of homework! Just trying to get back in the swing of things with the school schedule. Tomorrow is Nadiya’s birthday, so we are gearing up for a small family gathering. Life is good. I hope everything is well in your world. Get out there and make today a memorable one!!!
