Last weekend Lori and I finally met up for our belated birthday weekend getaway. We usually meet in November, the actual month of our birthdays, but life happened, so we decided to meet up in February in Carmel. Let me tell you, it really was worth the wait. We stayed at Carmel Valley Ranch, a beautifully serene resort that was absolute perfection, and just what the Doctor ordered. When Lori and I get together, we cant help but talk shop, all the while encouraging and brainstorming ideas for each other’s businesses. It comes naturally, and it’s always fun.  I left there with a healthy To Do List, and a recharged mind and priorities. I look forward to implementing some of my goals immediately. I will share here with you that God has been putting it on my heart to become more visible in my  brand. It’s definitely something I struggle with, being the hardcore-introvert-behind-the-scenes-gal that I am. I’ve been working on ways to do it in a way that feels authentic to me. So be on the look out for more glimpses  of me *cringe.*  And if you see me around social media, coming out of my shell, be sure to say hi! The part that makes it worth it is getting to know you guys!

xo,

HAPPY TUESDAY!!!

I’m loving the rain.☂

Today I am catching up on work & staying cozy. This weekend Rob and I went to San Diego sans kiddies. We had a great time. San Diego is a beautiful city. I’ll share more of our visit tomorrow. Just wanted to touch base since I have apparently been AWOL since I discovered those Tom Ford python pumps a week ago. (my bad!) I also started my journey back to short hair. Did my first 2 cuts last week and the week before… tee hee…

Hope you are having a fabulous Tuesday!

Goodbye Summer Vacay . . . We’ll Miss You!!!

Leo Carillo State Beach, August 2012

Well, tomorrow the kiddies are back in school. I can hardly believe it is that time of year again! This summer was a lot of fun, and although we didn’t take any trips this summer, we spent a lot of time together and it was good for my soul . . .  and now, it’s back to work & school!!! I welcome the change in schedule. Not so much the drop offs and pick ups, but the routine of it all seems to have a stabilizing effect on the kiddies . . . (and the husband for that matter). Now all I need is for the weather to do a drastic 180 and drop about 40 degrees!!! Then, I will be in heaven!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Camping 101 | Lessons Learned . . .

We went camping for the first time 2 weeks ago. Up to this point, my only experience with camping was sleeping in a tent in the backyard of a friend’s house for a few hours when I was 9. (It got too “chilly” and we decided to come in and reclaim her bedroom). Our friends, Tandalaya & Warren are avid campers, and they invited us up to their campsite to hang out with them and their kids. All of us were really excited to experience nature up close and personal. We drove up to Leo Carillo State Beach, in our car packed to the hilt with snacks, a tent, blankets, pillows, changes of clothes, bathing suits and towels. When we got there it quickly became apparent to me that we were camping novices!! Upon walking up to the campsite and viewing the cozy layout, 2 things were made very clear to me:

1. Our tent was pretty small for 4 people.

2. Camping requires ALOT of packing, planning, unpacking and organization!!

So here is my camping experience in bullet form, to briefly share our trip:

  • Overall feeling: Love camping; Underlying feeling: Camping is not as fun without the right stuff!!!
  • Don’t skimp on the blankets: Didn’t bring enough blankets so Rob and I froze all night.
  • Must. Get. Larger. Tent. -preferably one with 2 rooms (Yes! they have those, even ones with 5 rooms and screened porches!!)
  • Always check to be sure the ground where you are setting up your tent is LEVEL. I awoke with a pretty bad back ache because I had spent the night trying to keep myself from rolling onto Nadiya! The slightest incline makes a world of difference in your sleep.
  • You can have a blow up bed to sleep on in your tent??? WOW!!! Note to self: must research . . .
  • Get Warren’s rib recipe!! Total mouth-watering yumminess!!
  • Eating ribs with a plastic knife and fork (due to braces): not so fun.
  • Hatred of public restrooms: CONFIRMED. My natural aversion to public areas of waste deposit is in tact.

There were many highlights of our trip, (funny Jamaican ghost stories, good conversation & of course, good food) but I think the one that stands out most is being awakened at 4am by an overly-excited bird I had never heard before. It made the most interesting sound, and was very adamant about doing it right outside our tent. I don’t know what he was singing about, but it sounded ALOT like “McDonalds!  . . . McDonalds! . . . McDonalds!” I’m not a fan of McDonald’s food at all, but that bird could make alot of money if the McDonald’s PR peops found out about him!!!

We had a fantastic time and we are going to do it again next year. But this time, we will invest in a larger tent, and be sure NOT to set up our tent on an incline!!

Have you ever been camping before? Did you like it?

Life in Pictures . . .

And so another month comes to a close . . . Hard to believe we are so quickly approaching the month of August!! It’s amazing how fast this summer is going! Nevertheless, this has been a good summer. Last week our cousin from Chi-town came to visit. It’s been about 25 years since I last saw him . . . and that’s pretty damn amazing considering I am only 27!!! Lol. Anyway, we don’t have much family on the West coast, so it was fantastic to catch up and reminisce. July has been filled with good food, family time, fun outings and time spent with loved ones. There is nothing better. This week we gear up for our first family camping trip! We are meeting some dear friends up in Malibu for a little fun in the sun. We’re all really looking forward to it. And since I am not taking any work with me, I am posting this now, that way I know I’ve done my due diligence and completed the month on the good foot! As I look back, I can see there are a few things I am not able to cross off of my July Goals list, but I guess that’s what August is for!!

Have a great Tuesday and keep reaching for the stars!!! xo

Thankful Thursdays: The First Day of Summer Vacay!!!!

SUMMER IS OFFICIALLY HERE in our household!!!! Today is the last day of school for the biscuits. I can’t believe how fast this school year went!! I am now officially the mother of a 1st and 2nd grader!! Seems just yesterday I was pushing around that uncooperative double stroller, self-consciously hogging up aisles and running over the backs of people’s flip-flops in the mall. Yeah, you know me. I’m sure you’ve met me before. It wasn’t that I was trying to be annoying, my stroller just had a mind of its own, and try as I might, it never did comply. It was probably angry that it had to lug around that 2nd seat. Probably longed to be a one-seater. Nevertheless, it served it’s purpose, and I got my revenge when I folded it up for the last time (or tried to, it never did want to fold up without a fight) and stuffed it in my garage. Rob later donated it to one of the mothers at his school. (Poor woman, didn’t know what she was getting into. I pray she was blessed by it and left unharmed by it’s stubbornness). Anyway, today I am thankful for the start of another summer with my babies. I am ready to dive into this summer with my family. I look forward to learning, experiencing, seeing, traveling, watching, laughing and loving with my tribe.

What are you thankful for today?
