Thankful Thursdays | The Simple Truth . . .

ClosetBefore_thelookbookphilosophy.com

Today’s Thankful Thursday consists of a simple, well warranted, Thank you. I’m going to share a little story with you that will briefly explain the origin of this Thank You . . .

Once upon a time there was a boy who met a girl and fell in love. After many bliss-filled years of dating, (6 to be exact) they married and purchased a lovely home. This home was filled with love, laughter, sometimes arguing, eventually children, and lots of the girl’s “things.” (By things I am referring to  ALL of her numerous clothing items: shoes, purses, bobby pins, headbands, nail polish, tights, dresses, T shirts, jackets, tank tops, jeans, as well as, but not limited to: art supplies; including markers, pens, sketchbooks, paint brushes, pastel chalk, highlighters, post it notes, glitter, glue sticks, leather swatches, mechanical pencils and more.) Whew!

Well, the boy was a good sport, and put up with all of her “things” over the years. Sometimes the boy would notice that the girl was a little overwhelmed. For instance, he noticed that when she opened her closet, clothes would spew forth, as though trying to make a desperate escape from the depths of the black hole that was her closet. He would offer her hints in a well meaning sing song voice (that kind of annoyed her), about how to stay on top of her “things.”  The girl appreciated that he cared enough to give her advice, but she also knew that he didn’t fully “understand” what she was dealing with. For one thing, when the girl would get dressed, she would sometimes try on a few different outfits. This process could sometimes prove to be time consuming, thus eating up the time it would take to hang each item back on it’s appropriate hanger and replace said hanger on the over-stuffed, bending rod in her black hole closet. Before she knew it, she would have to hurry to leave, so as not to be late for her appointments. And so, the clothing would get placed on top of other clothing on the already stuffed and layered shelves and hangers in her closet. The girl meant well, her plan was always to return in the evening and hang up her items, placing them back on the sad and sagging rod in a color coordinated fashion. She rationalized it by reminding herself that all this madness was concealed behind two beautifully painted, glossy black doors, rendering the craziness invisible to others, and therefore making it non-offensive. Now, to her credit, maintaining an organized closet was something that had happened regularly in the earlier days of their marriage . . . pre-kids + home based business. And although the closet looked like the site of a natural disaster to the outside eye, she (pretty much) knew where everything was inside the closet. However, in recent years, she had absolutely, without a doubt, fallen short of the glory of the organized closet she had once maintained. And thus, any mention of it from the boy would annoy the crap out of her.

One day, the girl went out for a day at the spa with her friend. It was a lovely day, one filled with relaxation, good food, water play, sunbathing and laughter. When she returned, she was relaxed, yet somehow tired. As she walked into her room, she noticed a stack of empty shoe boxes piled in the corner of her room. This could only mean one thing. SOMEONE had been messing with her “things.” She knew this because these empty shoeboxes had previously taken up unorganized residence in her abyss closet. She slowly walked over to her closet, timidly putting her hand on the shiny gold handle. She carefully pulled the doors open and was met with the sound of angels singing. Glitter and gold dust fell from the sky, as her eyes took in the beauty of the scene before her. . .

The Boy Had Cleaned Her Closet.

And for this, the girl was eternally thankful ♥.

Thankful Thursdays | 10 Things I am Thankful for Today . . .

THANKFUL_THURSDAY_THELOOKBOOKPHILOSOPHY

Thank God it’s Thursday! This week seems to be flying by! My days and weeks have been so different since we started homeschooling Reston. The results of homeschooling on my son have been so wonderful in such a short period of time! It really is amazing. It’s funny, although my days are structured differently, I somehow seem to be getting it all done. It doesn’t always look pretty, and my work time is typically not structured the way I like it to be, but when I look back, I can see that I am still making progress.

Next week I will be going to Vegas for a few days to cover the MAGIC show. I’m really excited about this trip. Usually I attend MAGIC for the purposes of sourcing and networking for my own business. But this time I am attending as Press! One of my passions is discovering and promoting new and existing brands, and sharing them with you.  God is putting these opportunities in my path and I am really excited to be able to pursue them!

With that said, I thought that for this Thankful Thursday, I would list a few things that I am thankful for today. I heard a man once say that a blessing is something that means something to you. I feel like I have many blessings to be thankful for. They may not seem like much to others, but I think its always good to take note, recognize and be thankful for the little things.

TODAY I AM THANKFUL FOR:

  1. Reston’s progress and witnessing the return of the joy of learning!!! Super BIG Yay!!!
  2. My family’s health and happiness
  3. My trip to Vegas next week and the opportunity to cover the MAGIC show
  4. My desire + passion to design and create is returning full force. (another Super BIG Yay!!!)
  5. Morning adventure walks with my son! (see photo above ☺ )
  6. My marriage of 11 years. It ain’t always easy, but the hard work is so worth it!
  7. Inside jokes and giggles with my kiddos
  8. My mom and dad being so supportive and helpful with the kids pick ups and drop offs
  9. Being 5 months gluten free. If someone had told me I would be GF a year ago I never would have believed them.
  10. Tomorrow is Friday!!!

What are you thankful for today?

Thankful Thursdays: Blessed.

I spent this morning working on some renderings for an interior design company that I am very fond of. I love that I am able to freelance and keep my hands in different areas that are interesting to me. If I wasn’t so in love with fashion, interior design would be my full time love. But luckily, I am blessed to be able to do both!! I love rendering and it keeps my creative juices flowing. Plus, watching projects go from paper to reality is always a great source of joy and inspiration for me. So, today I am thankful for the humble opportunity to contribute to the bigger picture. I am thankful that God has given me an opportunity to use my talents in a way that can allow me to earn money, and fulfill a need for those who need it. It’s good to be needed. It’s good to be challenged. It’s all good.

Happy Thursday!!!

Thankful Thursdays | A Yummy Start to the Day

My favorite morning smoothie. This ALWAYS makes me happy in the morning. Why don’t I make these more often??

Hello friends, long time no post! I hope everything is wonderful in your world. I haven’t forgotten about you. I just had to take a break from the rat race to give thanks and touch base with you all. We have all been recovering from colds in our household. Nevertheless, things are good. My business is moving forward, and we have placed the order for our first samples! YAY!!! I’ve been working closely with the factory to get our logo and nameplates finalized. Earlier this week I received a few hardware samples and will post soon to show you. In the meantime and in between time, I just wanted to take a minute to give thanks for this beautiful day. Another day of life, to try harder, grow more, get better, give more, do more, be kinder, listen more, love more, smile more, laugh more, and be more gracious.

Happy Thursday yall!

So Fresh & So Clean. Clean.

Can’t you just imagine waking up and walking out through these beautiful glass doors to this gorgeous garden every morning? I can. Cup o’ coffee in hand. Birds chirping. Thanking God for another day to master my weaknesses. Asking Him to help me to be a blessing to everyone I come in contact with. Aaaahhhh . . . yesssssss . . . I’m there . . . But I’m here. In this house, thanking Him in advance for all that I am. All that I have. & All that I will be.

♥ Happy Friday!! ♥

Thankful Thursdays: Mentors, a Kid-Free Day & Thai Food . . .

Gina & I @ SMASH Hollywood, CA

Happy Thursday everyone!!! This week is moving along nicely. I still feel like I have not gotten enough work done on my tech packs, but I have had some successful meetings and follow ups on important leads. Yesterday I had a great meeting with my mentor Gina Alexander. Whatever industry you are in, it is imperative to have a mentor. Someone you can trust, that is willing to lead and guide you through situations, idea implementation and other things that you may face on the day-to-day. Gina is a true blessing in my life and she is also proof that prayer is powerful. About a year ago I realized I was very isolated in my industry.  I had no “real” industry compadres. I prayed for a mentor and like-minded friends who I could share my journey with and not long after, I met Gina! We met via another dear friend (whom I also asked God to send to me) Loreta Washington, (I’ll have to share THAT story another time!- another answered prayer!!). Gina and I friended each other, on facebook, but it wasn’t until about a year later, when we reconnected at her Handbag Designer Lab, that our friendship really blossomed. God is great!!!

Spidey Display @ the Santa Monica Place Mall . . .

Anyway, on Wednesday, Rob took the kiddies to Abuela’s and we had a kid-free day!!! (Those are rare in these parts!) After his morning workshop we had the day to do with as we pleased. It was such a great day. Almost felt like we went back in time! We visited all our old haunts. We went to Santa Monica, I still had not seen the not-so-newly-anymore renovated Santa Monica Place Mall. This was the mall I grew up in. I spent many a day there after school. We walked the Promenade (another of my youthful haunts) although in those days it was nothing like it is now! (ie: homeless people, Thom McCann and Woolworth’s) In many ways, I prefer the old promenade, however, It felt good to be back home.

Le Promenade . . .

After Santa Monica we drove to Hollywood to our favorite Thai restaurant, Torung. Best. Thai. Food. Ever!!!!! A great ending to a much-needed day alone with the hubby.

I hope you guys are enjoying your week. Keep infusing it with fun and relaxation wherever possible!!! xo

Thankful Thursdays: The First Day of Summer Vacay!!!!

SUMMER IS OFFICIALLY HERE in our household!!!! Today is the last day of school for the biscuits. I can’t believe how fast this school year went!! I am now officially the mother of a 1st and 2nd grader!! Seems just yesterday I was pushing around that uncooperative double stroller, self-consciously hogging up aisles and running over the backs of people’s flip-flops in the mall. Yeah, you know me. I’m sure you’ve met me before. It wasn’t that I was trying to be annoying, my stroller just had a mind of its own, and try as I might, it never did comply. It was probably angry that it had to lug around that 2nd seat. Probably longed to be a one-seater. Nevertheless, it served it’s purpose, and I got my revenge when I folded it up for the last time (or tried to, it never did want to fold up without a fight) and stuffed it in my garage. Rob later donated it to one of the mothers at his school. (Poor woman, didn’t know what she was getting into. I pray she was blessed by it and left unharmed by it’s stubbornness). Anyway, today I am thankful for the start of another summer with my babies. I am ready to dive into this summer with my family. I look forward to learning, experiencing, seeing, traveling, watching, laughing and loving with my tribe.

What are you thankful for today?

Thankful Thursdays . . .

Happy Thursday guys!! I am working in LA today. The sun is peeking through the clouds promising to shed a little light and warmth on things, which I am grateful for. Life is good. ☺

What are you thankful for today?
