Finding the Beauty in Everyday Life . . .

Hey guys! How’s it going? The school year is winding down over here and I am gearing up to have a house full of people during the day while I work (my husband, daughter and son will soon be on vacation from school + work for 2 months). This happens every summer, yet I still find myself filled with excitement and apprehension at the beginning of summer every year. I don’t know why I have the apprehension….. well, yes, I do know why. It’s because everyone else in the house is free (for the most part) and I have to work. I’m used to working from the peace and quiet of my bedroom without much interruption. When everyone is home, I have a lovely soundtrack of background television noise, laughing, arguing and interruptions of ” Mom, what can I eat?” to work with. Perhaps this is more like it would be if I were working in an office . . . The boss coming in and handing out more work to do, interruptions from colleagues, a muffled soundtrack of staplers, talking and papers rustling. The only difference is I wouldn’t have to break up too many fights . . . although I guess that depends on where you work, no? Anyway, I’m trying to remind myself to stop and find the beauty in each moment as I go throughout my day. Hoping that by doing so, I will not stress so much when family things come up throughout the day. I know its a mindset, and it’s obviously one I have yet to conquer. ;)

Life In Pictures | Week of 8.16.14

lantern_thelookbookphilosophy.com I gotta say, this summer has flown by at lightning speed! Kids are back to school next week and I feel as if I have really been playing a game of catch up!! Last Saturday I attended my 3rd wedding of the summer. This time my nephew got married. It was such a beautiful day. My daughter was a flower girl and my son was an escort. Soooo cool to see your kids following directions splendidly!! Lol! Saturday was a wonderful day filled with love, laughter and a lot of dancing.

flowergirl_thelookbookphilosophy.com Escort_thelookbookphilosophy.com Flowergirlz_thelookbookphilosophy.com Life is really a lesson in letting go. If you look closely at my daughter’s dress, you will see where she rubbed her beautiful, WHITE flower girl dress up against the newly polished coffee table 5 minutes before we were to leave the house en route to the wedding. At that point all we could do was “just breathe . . . ” ☺

sisters_thelookbookphilosophy.com My sisters and I made a colorful statement don’t you think? I love the sparkle in Detra’s eyes on this shot. (she is the proud mother of the Groom :) My dress is from Zara. It is no longer available, but you can find similar ones here and here.

Cakemix_thelookbookphilosophy.com Last week we also celebrated my niece’s 7th birthday! We celebrated by doing cake decorating at Duff’s Cake Mix in Hollywood. You can decorate your own cupcakes and cakes. Such a cool spot!! The kids (and adults) loved it! My mom and I even discussed getting together for an adult cake decorating party or a girl’s nite out.

We met when I attended the 2 day Blogcademy Workshop in San Francisco last Spring. We had lunch in Pasadena and then after a quick selfie, she snapped this fabulous photo of me at the phone booths. Karina is a San Francisco based photographer. It was really fun getting to know her better and I am looking forward to collaborating with her soon!

IMG_7012 Phonebooth1_thelookbookphilosophy.com My dress is by Elan. I got it at Nordstrom Rack. It’s become one of my favorite summer dresses, you can wear it a few different ways so that the stripes give you a different pattern. You can find a similar one here.

We’ve been spending a lot of time walking at the colleges in the evenings. That tends to happen a lot in the summer. No matter how many times I go there, I can’t help but to take pictures. Its such an inspiring, peaceful place for me.

ivyCovered_thelookbookphilosophy.com I love the ivy covered exterior and the paned windows . . .

GeoDoor_thelookbookphilosophy.com These geometric gates into the courtyard are so cool . . . wishing I had a courtyard to put them in!

Fleur_thelookbookphilosophy.com NatureinHand_thelookbookphilosophy.com I have to make the kids bring a backpack or small bag next time. Everytime we go, they collect nuts, seeds, acorns + pine cones and they always end up crunched up in the bottom of my purse. #mommyproblems Lol!

Thankful Thursdays | 10 Things I am Thankful for Today . . .

THANKFUL_THURSDAY_THELOOKBOOKPHILOSOPHY

Thank God it’s Thursday! This week seems to be flying by! My days and weeks have been so different since we started homeschooling Reston. The results of homeschooling on my son have been so wonderful in such a short period of time! It really is amazing. It’s funny, although my days are structured differently, I somehow seem to be getting it all done. It doesn’t always look pretty, and my work time is typically not structured the way I like it to be, but when I look back, I can see that I am still making progress.

Next week I will be going to Vegas for a few days to cover the MAGIC show. I’m really excited about this trip. Usually I attend MAGIC for the purposes of sourcing and networking for my own business. But this time I am attending as Press! One of my passions is discovering and promoting new and existing brands, and sharing them with you.  God is putting these opportunities in my path and I am really excited to be able to pursue them!

With that said, I thought that for this Thankful Thursday, I would list a few things that I am thankful for today. I heard a man once say that a blessing is something that means something to you. I feel like I have many blessings to be thankful for. They may not seem like much to others, but I think its always good to take note, recognize and be thankful for the little things.

TODAY I AM THANKFUL FOR:

  1. Reston’s progress and witnessing the return of the joy of learning!!! Super BIG Yay!!!
  2. My family’s health and happiness
  3. My trip to Vegas next week and the opportunity to cover the MAGIC show
  4. My desire + passion to design and create is returning full force. (another Super BIG Yay!!!)
  5. Morning adventure walks with my son! (see photo above ☺ )
  6. My marriage of 11 years. It ain’t always easy, but the hard work is so worth it!
  7. Inside jokes and giggles with my kiddos
  8. My mom and dad being so supportive and helpful with the kids pick ups and drop offs
  9. Being 5 months gluten free. If someone had told me I would be GF a year ago I never would have believed them.
  10. Tomorrow is Friday!!!

What are you thankful for today?

Life in Pictures: Gone til’ November . . .

Novembersm

Looking back, November was a lot of fun. We didn’t get to do my annual birthday trip to ‘Frisco this year, but we did get back up to Santa Barbara to hang with my brother & his family. Definitely a good time. I’m happy to say that it’s always a good time for me when I am with my fam. (I realize this is not always the case for errbody.) So I am thankful. ☺

Le Weekend is Almost Here!!!

 Image via

Happy Friday!! Thrilled that the weekend is just a few hours away. For me it officially starts when I pick the kiddies up from school @ 2:30. I don’t really have a choice. All work just seems to stop until I put them to bed @ 8!! Anyway, We’re looking forward to this weekend. My brother is treating the whole family to the Happiest Place on Earth tomorrow. Needless to say, the kiddies (and some of us adults as well) are all super excited. This will be a much needed trip. September & October have been really tight months for us in the $$$ department. So it will be great to be able to hang with the fam and have our only focus be standing in lines to have fun and eating food that we shouldn’t be eating!!!!

YAY!!!

Sunday my ReDecor project starts. Every year around this time I get the Re-do, Re-vise Re-visit bug. That’s when no matter what I do, I can’t stop re arranging furniture, and re-imagining my existing furniture and walls in different colors. And this is where my friends Behr, Valspar & Sherwin Williams come in. They always seem to help get me out of my (we’ve-had-the-same-furniture-for-10-years duldrums). Yeah, paint is an amazing thing. It can transform your life. Literally. Two years ago my husband painted our leather couches. Totally revamped them. You can get really creative when the funds are tight!!! Anyway, I’ll be taking you along for my ReDecor ride. I’m starting out small, but my goal is to have the Dining Room & Kitchen redone-revamped and revised by my birthday in November. Look out Rob, the Honey-do list is about to get a little longer!!! I just love the challenge of making things look good on a budget. . . . but don’t get me wrong, I’m totally up for the challenge of making things look good sans budget! . . . . Or let’s just say, with a much more substantial budget!!!!

Have a fantastic weekend guys. Hug the ones you love as much as possible today. ♥
