This pic from our trip to Santa Barbara this weekend pretty much sums up how I’m feeling…
Summer. Bring it on.
This image makes me want to call up my girls, grab a glass of Roscato and kick back for hours of good conversation . . .
We went camping for the first time 2 weeks ago. Up to this point, my only experience with camping was sleeping in a tent in the backyard of a friend’s house for a few hours when I was 9. (It got too “chilly” and we decided to come in and reclaim her bedroom). Our friends, Tandalaya & Warren are avid campers, and they invited us up to their campsite to hang out with them and their kids. All of us were really excited to experience nature up close and personal. We drove up to Leo Carillo State Beach, in our car packed to the hilt with snacks, a tent, blankets, pillows, changes of clothes, bathing suits and towels. When we got there it quickly became apparent to me that we were camping novices!! Upon walking up to the campsite and viewing the cozy layout, 2 things were made very clear to me:
1. Our tent was pretty small for 4 people.
2. Camping requires ALOT of packing, planning, unpacking and organization!!
So here is my camping experience in bullet form, to briefly share our trip:
There were many highlights of our trip, (funny Jamaican ghost stories, good conversation & of course, good food) but I think the one that stands out most is being awakened at 4am by an overly-excited bird I had never heard before. It made the most interesting sound, and was very adamant about doing it right outside our tent. I don’t know what he was singing about, but it sounded ALOT like “McDonalds! . . . McDonalds! . . . McDonalds!” I’m not a fan of McDonald’s food at all, but that bird could make alot of money if the McDonald’s PR peops found out about him!!!
We had a fantastic time and we are going to do it again next year. But this time, we will invest in a larger tent, and be sure NOT to set up our tent on an incline!!
Have you ever been camping before? Did you like it?
And so another month comes to a close . . . Hard to believe we are so quickly approaching the month of August!! It’s amazing how fast this summer is going! Nevertheless, this has been a good summer. Last week our cousin from Chi-town came to visit. It’s been about 25 years since I last saw him . . . and that’s pretty damn amazing considering I am only 27!!! Lol. Anyway, we don’t have much family on the West coast, so it was fantastic to catch up and reminisce. July has been filled with good food, family time, fun outings and time spent with loved ones. There is nothing better. This week we gear up for our first family camping trip! We are meeting some dear friends up in Malibu for a little fun in the sun. We’re all really looking forward to it. And since I am not taking any work with me, I am posting this now, that way I know I’ve done my due diligence and completed the month on the good foot! As I look back, I can see there are a few things I am not able to cross off of my July Goals list, but I guess that’s what August is for!!
Have a great Tuesday and keep reaching for the stars!!! xo
Happy Monday guys! I trust you all had fantabulous weekends! I’m still finding it hard to believe we have slipped into July already! But we all know that time does have a way of shifting into overdrive when you are having fun! Anyway, I have some goals for July, and I am listing them here in an effort to stay on track and remain accountable. Just a few small things I want to accomplish this month:
Hopefully I am not overdoing my list. I tried to keep it simple, but the list maker in me sometimes takes over. (I have a deep adoration for lists . . . and an even greater appreciation for crossing things off said lists). I was born this way. A good term for me would be “LISTOMANIAC.” Hey, the word list is the first 4 letters of my last name! Obviously this is no mistake!!!
Well, today I am working on the completion of more drawings and this afternoon I have a dental appointment to get 4 teeth pulled!!! This is the final step before I get my braces put on. I’m a little nervous, but both my Mom and my brother had it done before they got their braces, so I know I will be fine. Besides, when I get back home, I get to cross that off my list!!! ☺
What can I say? Somehow June seems to have had an abundance of family time and less work. I’ve enjoyed it. Not to negate the work that was done, but work is always there (for the most part). I’m definitely ready for July though . . . maybe not the extra added heat that usually accompanies this month, but I love starting anew, and that is what this new month provides for me. Work will definitely amp up this month as I prepare for the MAGIC show, line revisions and completions. I can’t wait to share some of the new bags with you. Right now they are in the process of being transformed from paper to real life. It’s like I am in the beginning stages of labor!!! -The part where you are like “OMG, I think I’m in labor!” (Not the agonizing drop-to-the-floor-scream-out-your-husband’s-name-and-curse-the-day-you-met kind of labor). Anyway, My plate is still piled high for today. I am looking forward to the breather that comes with completion of projects. Enjoy this last day of June, and prepare to embrace the future that is JULY!!! xo
