Label Love | Maticevski Spring 2015

Maticevski_008_1366

I recently discovered Toni Maticevski, the Australian based designer behind the Maticevski label. Talk about love at first sight!! Maticevski’s pieces are works of art in their own right. He pushes the boundaries of form and function by creating beautiful silhouettes comprised of different textures, surface treatments and skilled cutting. I love his use of color for the spring 2015 collection. Soft muted tones of gray, chartreuse and crisp whites with shiny jet black are some of the colors used in this collection.

For those of you who might be looking to add more color to your wardrobe, think accent colors. You don’t necessarily have to do head to toe color. A simple bright accent or pop of color on your shoes or accessories can go a long way to freshening up the look of an otherwise neutral outfit. Yellow is a great color to play with. A little goes a long way. But don’t get me wrong, I have a few all yellow dresses in my closet that totally brighten my mood whenever I wear them . . .

Label Love | Grey City Shoes . . .

GreyCity1_thelookbookphilosophy.com I love the cut out details, rivets and buckles on this bootie that Grey City is debuting for Spring.

Grey City2_thelookbookphilosophy.com Butter soft leather is accentuated by textured suede and stacked heels @ the Grey City booth during the Transit Shoe Show last month. Style shown:: Billie To purchase click here.

I recently discovered Grey City Shoes @ LA Market Week’s Transit Shoe Show last month. Not only do I love their shoes, but I also discovered that Grey City’s designer is a fellow FIDM alumni, which, honestly, made me like the line even more! It’s always inspiring to see other FIDM grads pursuing and achieving their dreams. Grey City is based in Seattle, Washington and is designed by Vikki Andrews, who co-owns the company with childhood friend, Kyle Grant. Vikki debuted the line in the Fall of 2012 and Grey City is now in it’s 4th season. This season’s line features a lot of really great booties with cut out details and buckles. Being that the line is so fashion forward, I thought it would be fun to create some outfits based on a few of their styles to show you how I would wear Grey City . . .

I’ve always been partial to peep toes, and the bowed shape of this heel accentuates the lace-up front and side cut outs of this peep toe bootie spectacularly! This style is called Kennedy and can be purchased here.

Grey City retails from $150-$200 and can be found online @ RevolveClothing.com, SoleStruck.com and Urban Outfitters.

Gabriele Colangelo Pre-Fall ’14

Slide2

I really love Gabriele Colangelo’s collection for Fall ’14. There is a great meshing of color, pattern and texture. Though the line is mostly neutral, she balances the neutral grays with pops of citrus yellow and textures like fur, pin tucking, leather trim and pleats. The line has a decidedly menswear influence to it, with it’s use of geometric shapes, silhouettes and fabrics. I’ve selected a few of my favorite looks above and created a color palette for you. This happens to be one of my all-time favorite color combos. I love how the acid yellow stands out against the neutral grays.

Would you wear any of these pieces or colors?

Label Love: For the Love of Donna Karan . . .

Backstage Pass: top 6 images courtesy of From Me to You

I happen to think Donna Karan is one of the great womenswear designer’s of our time. Her aesthetic is something I can really relate to. I adore her use of color, texture and draping. I often gravitate to her clothes, and find myself wishing I had a closet full of her designs. The above photos are backstage images captured by Jamie Beck & Kevin Burg of the ever inspiring From Me to You blog. Below are images of Donna’s offerings for Spring 2013 from her recent showing last week during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week:

Label Love: Burberry Prorsum Delivers, yet AGAIN!!!!

Burberry Prorsum Fall ’12 RTW

Glove Love . . .

Once again, Burberry’s Christopher Bailey did NOT disappoint. I am still enamored with the Spring ’12 collection and now the subsequent Fall ’12 Ready to Wear collection has me doubly inspired and desirous of many of the collection’s pieces. (I almost can not contain myself as I type this.) Studded gloves: GET ME THESE NOW!! The combination of newsboy caps (already a go-to wardrobe staple), pencil skirts (nevermind my deep-rooted unhealthy fondness for p-skirts in general), bellows pockets, tweed, and rich Fall colors like olive, ochre, chocolate and rust proved for a beautiful collection that gave off a sexy, city-girl-visits-the-country vibe. Pocket placement is questionable on some of the jackets and skirts, but, I will admit, it looks great on models with 0% body fat. However, women with curves, like myself, may not want the extra added attention to the hip area. Nevertheless, the classic tailoring and luxuriousness of the fabric choices will easily carry you through Fall ’12 and beyond. View the slideshow below for more from the collection.

NYFW Fall ’12 / Label Love: Costello Tagliapietra

For their Fall 2012 line, Jeffrey Costello and Robert Tagliapietra designed beautifully floaty prints on rich silks, then twisted and draped them into gorgeous dresses. They use a process called AirDye technology, in which they create fabrics with contrasting colors on either side. Jeffrey designed all the prints used in the line. I love the rich fall colors and draping of the fabrics.

NYFW Fall ’12 / Label Love: Gabriela Colangelo

So, I know that I have a rather unnatural obsession with the color gray. I don’t know why I love it, but I do. It is the perfect backdrop for vibrant pops of color, and quite often a color that I gravitate to based on my mood. Italian designer, Gabriela Colangelo, has used the color gray as a backdrop to her new Pre Fall line. Gabriela keeps her silhouettes simple and classic, with clean lines and sharp cuts. She has even managed to capitalize on the explosion of prints we are seeing in the fashion world, in a way that is moody and intriguing. Um, Love!!!
