Costume Designer for ABC’s Scandal, Lyn Paolo, being interviewed by Fashionista.com’s Co-Editor in Chief Lauren Indvik
Last Friday I attended an all day conference in LA @ the beautiful W Hotel in Hollywood. The conference was put on by fashion news site Fashionista.com, and featured a full day of industry panelists sharing their stories and insight on the fashion industry. The topics covered included styling, wardrobe/costume design and blogging. It was a great opportunity to network and spend time with other industry professionals. A lot of the information shared was relatively basic, but I loved the fact that they offered 10 minute mentoring sessions with professionals in the field of your choice. I had a mentoring session with Liza Deyrmenjian, the creator of Fashion Business Accelerator 360. FBA360.com is an online community of industry experts that helps fashion businesses get the tools they need to take their businesses to the next level. They provide online classes and workshops in LA and NYC. I love her business concept and the short 4 week online courses they offer can be great refreshers or stepping stones. The highlight of the event for me, was keynote speaker, Lyn Paolo, costume designer for some of my favorite shows, such as Scandal (she is responsible for Olivia Pope’s impeccable wardrobe), Shameless, ER and the West Wing to name a few. I loved Lyn’s energy and forthrightness . . . And who can deny her eye! I drool over Ms. Pope’s wardrobe choices weekly!!
Last Thursday I attended the Blogger Babes private screening of 5 new clothing lines at the Cooper building. My favorite of the 5 lines was Yoze, by David Odia. Yoze is a beautiful contemporary line, launching with 5 initial styles using muted digital prints and color blocking. I love the idea of prints on winter white. Keep your eyes out for Yoze. The line will be debuting to the public this month.
I‘m sure you can probably see through my blogging bluffs and antics and realize that [sometimes] when I post inspiration shots it means I have not had time to sit and gather my thoughts into what I would like to think is a coherent, somewhat entertaining post. Notice I said sometimes . . . I’m pointing this out because this is true for today. But also I just really LOVE these boots and wanted to share them with you. Plus I just love the blogger’s descriptive post about when she received said boots in the mail. I was right there with her and knew that I would have had the same reaction!! Visit A Portable Package for a quick adrenaline rush fueled by this special delivery. I swear I could have written that same post!!
Anyway, the kiddies are off visiting Abuela for the weekend and now I pretty much have NO excuse as to why my workspace is looking like Ground Zero in a paper snowstorm. Yeah, I know. Thats what happens when you come face to face with your own perfectly refined procrastination skills. Well, at least for me, what happens is that I begin to blubberingly confess the aforementioned skills to others in a feeble attempt to hold myself accountable. Which is pretty much what you have just read 4 lines above. See, my thinking is that now that you know that I have no excuse, I will have to clean my workspace because NOW YOU KNOW THAT I HAVE NO EXCUSE!!! And then I can come back and tell you how refreshed I feel because when I sit down to write my next post, I won’t be hunched over and pinched in between a 15″ wide space of cascading books and papers (topped off with a nice stack of neatly folded laundry . . . don’t ask…) Well, thats the goal for today guys.
Hello friends! How have you been? Please forgive, I’ve been on the run lately and have been neglecting my blogging practices! ☹ I keep putting it off waiting for the right time to sit and post (also known as procrastination). Apparently the time is never right. (I have learned this lesson somewhere in my past a couple hundred thousand times- I guess I just needed a refresher!)
It is December already!! Since we last connected I have turned 41, Thanksgiving has come and gone, & I have taken a huge step closer toward some major goals for my business! At the moment, I am sitting amidst a mound of papers on my desk that need to be tended to, so I thought I would take some of the pressure off myself (a.k.a. procrastinate even more) by bringing some beauty into your day with this picture of the lovely Grace Bol. I hope life is treating you all well. So many wonderful things are happening over here. Every day I am watching the dreams I have for my business actualize!!! There is nothing like it in the world. I hope you are all getting closer to achieving your deepest desires as well.
Thank you for moving with us!! So glad to have you! Look around, you may have missed a few posts. Be sure to sign up to receive TLBP’s posts directly to your inbox . . . My hope is that you will start your day with a cup of coffee* (or beverage of choice!) and a dose of inspiration & encouragement found on these pages . . . .
It’s hard to believe I wrote my first post a year ago today! At that time this blog was just a vision I had in my head. I had no idea I would meet so many fascinating and encouraging people along the way, but that is exactly what I had hoped would happen, and it has!! It’s been a really fun ride, and a wonderful creative outlet for me. I love blogging so much that I would continue to do it even if I had no followers. But I am so thankful to all of you for following along and joining in on the ride! Your comments and thoughts continue to inspire me and help to make my journey more colorful. Thank you for a marvelous first year. Here’s to many more!!!! xo
Happy Monday guys! I trust you all had fantabulous weekends! I’m still finding it hard to believe we have slipped into July already! But we all know that time does have a way of shifting into overdrive when you are having fun! Anyway, I have some goals for July, and I am listing them here in an effort to stay on track and remain accountable. Just a few small things I want to accomplish this month:
Go back to waking up early and spending time w/ God first, then starting my day
Begin photoshop/illustrator tutorials
No soda all month
Take more pictures
Secure overseas manufacturing
Have 4 date nights w/ Rob ♥
Hopefully I am not overdoing my list. I tried to keep it simple, but the list maker in me sometimes takes over. (I have a deep adoration for lists . . . and an even greater appreciation for crossing things off said lists). I was born this way. A good term for me would be “LISTOMANIAC.” Hey, the word list is the first 4 letters of my last name! Obviously this is no mistake!!!
Well, today I am working on the completion of more drawings and this afternoon I have a dental appointment to get 4 teeth pulled!!! This is the final step before I get my braces put on. I’m a little nervous, but both my Mom and my brother had it done before they got their braces, so I know I will be fine. Besides, when I get back home, I get to cross that off my list!!! ☺
Boy, have I been missing you guys!!! I feel I have been neglecting you, and not by choice! I have been going through a sort of “transitional” period. Both with my business and personal life. This is the last week of school for the kiddies. Yay!/Uh oh! There is a sense of excitement in the air, and also a slight apprehension on my part if I am honest with myself. I am only apprehensive because I know that my normal work day will have to adjust. Working from home is not all it’s cracked up to be. I am thankful for the opportunity, but having an actual dedicated room/office to work from is a must! Right now my bedroom is doing double time and it’s getting old real quick!!!!
But I digress, I am excited about spending unrestricted time with my family and doing fun “summer” things! This past weekend was a whirlwind. Rob ended up in the ER on Saturday night, due to a mishap with his elbow and the tooth of a 5th grader . . . Long story, but he is recovering nicely. On Sunday we went to the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) Open House. JPL specializes in robotic exploration of the solar system. We got to see 3D representations of the terrain on Mars, remote control robots that are used to scour the Mars surface and even a movie on what life is like on Mars! I did not know there was water on Mars!! Amazing universe we live in!
I am working on tech packs for my line this week. This is the part I generally do not enjoy about my job, but I have been telling myself that I actually DO enjoy this part, and guess what? . . . . its working!!!! ☺ I’m glad to be back and I hope your lives are blessing you daily.
