What can I say? Somehow June seems to have had an abundance of family time and less work. I’ve enjoyed it. Not to negate the work that was done, but work is always there (for the most part). I’m definitely ready for July though . . . maybe not the extra added heat that usually accompanies this month, but I love starting anew, and that is what this new month provides for me. Work will definitely amp up this month as I prepare for the MAGIC show, line revisions and completions. I can’t wait to share some of the new bags with you. Right now they are in the process of being transformed from paper to real life. It’s like I am in the beginning stages of labor!!! -The part where you are like “OMG, I think I’m in labor!” (Not the agonizing drop-to-the-floor-scream-out-your-husband’s-name-and-curse-the-day-you-met kind of labor). Anyway, My plate is still piled high for today. I am looking forward to the breather that comes with completion of projects. Enjoy this last day of June, and prepare to embrace the future that is JULY!!! xo
Starting off my day a little late this morning. Took a while to pull away from the kiddies. Yet that has not stopped my coffee intake. In fact I think it has contributed to an overindulgence. Lots on my plate today. I am finishing up some sketches for a fun project that is due tomorrow . . . And those “beloved” tech packs are still hanging over my head. One day I will learn not to push those things that are not fun off till the last minute . . . . or will I? It’s been 40 years of this, so maybe I am set in my ways on this one. The beauty of it is that it always gets done before the deadline. Anyway, Happy Friday guys!!! July is almost upon us. Time is marching on!!! Soak up your day and radiate its beauty! xo
Happy Friday yall!!! Have a blessed and prosperous weekend!!!!!!!! xo
Happy Thursday everyone!!! This week is moving along nicely. I still feel like I have not gotten enough work done on my tech packs, but I have had some successful meetings and follow ups on important leads. Yesterday I had a great meeting with my mentor Gina Alexander. Whatever industry you are in, it is imperative to have a mentor. Someone you can trust, that is willing to lead and guide you through situations, idea implementation and other things that you may face on the day-to-day. Gina is a true blessing in my life and she is also proof that prayer is powerful. About a year ago I realized I was very isolated in my industry. I had no “real” industry compadres. I prayed for a mentor and like-minded friends who I could share my journey with and not long after, I met Gina! We met via another dear friend (whom I also asked God to send to me) Loreta Washington, (I’ll have to share THAT story another time!- another answered prayer!!). Gina and I friended each other, on facebook, but it wasn’t until about a year later, when we reconnected at her Handbag Designer Lab, that our friendship really blossomed. God is great!!!
Anyway, on Wednesday, Rob took the kiddies to Abuela’s and we had a kid-free day!!! (Those are rare in these parts!) After his morning workshop we had the day to do with as we pleased. It was such a great day. Almost felt like we went back in time! We visited all our old haunts. We went to Santa Monica, I still had not seen the not-so-newly-anymore renovated Santa Monica Place Mall. This was the mall I grew up in. I spent many a day there after school. We walked the Promenade (another of my youthful haunts) although in those days it was nothing like it is now! (ie: homeless people, Thom McCann and Woolworth’s) In many ways, I prefer the old promenade, however, It felt good to be back home.
After Santa Monica we drove to Hollywood to our favorite Thai restaurant, Torung. Best. Thai. Food. Ever!!!!! A great ending to a much-needed day alone with the hubby.
I hope you guys are enjoying your week. Keep infusing it with fun and relaxation wherever possible!!! xo
Erickson Beamon’s oversized gold-plated, green Swarovski necklace is SCREAMING MY NAME!!!!!! I am in awe over the use of the different gold textures. The size of this necklace, along with the combination of gold and green crystals is absolutely gorgeous. This necklace has the commanding power to make an outfit. It almost wouldn’t matter what else you wore with it. It is clearly a stand out. A bold eye-catching piece, not for the timid!
Yesterday we rang in summer vacation by spending time with my brother and his family @ The Four Seasons in B. Hills. There’s nothing like spending time with the ones you love. Kids had a blast, and we all created more lifetime memories. Truly a great beginning to the summer!
On a fashion note, one of my dear friends commented on my post the other day. She had a really great question that I want to share for those of you who may not know. I mentioned that for the next few weeks I would be working on tech packs for the collection, and she wanted to know what those were. A tech pack, or technical package is a compilation of all the detailed information, (ie. measurements, specifications, drawings & even pictures), you will need to create samples and manufacture the line. A tech pack usually contains a black & white flat sketch of the design with all of the measurements and information needed to make the item- in this case, a handbag. Here are a few images of some of my previous tech packs and the finished sample . . .
Well guys, I am off to celebrate the college graduation of my nephew! My, how time flies!!!! I hope you are all having a fantabulous Friday. Drink in the day and exhale it’s blessings!!! xo
SUMMER IS OFFICIALLY HERE in our household!!!! Today is the last day of school for the biscuits. I can’t believe how fast this school year went!! I am now officially the mother of a 1st and 2nd grader!! Seems just yesterday I was pushing around that uncooperative double stroller, self-consciously hogging up aisles and running over the backs of people’s flip-flops in the mall. Yeah, you know me. I’m sure you’ve met me before. It wasn’t that I was trying to be annoying, my stroller just had a mind of its own, and try as I might, it never did comply. It was probably angry that it had to lug around that 2nd seat. Probably longed to be a one-seater. Nevertheless, it served it’s purpose, and I got my revenge when I folded it up for the last time (or tried to, it never did want to fold up without a fight) and stuffed it in my garage. Rob later donated it to one of the mothers at his school. (Poor woman, didn’t know what she was getting into. I pray she was blessed by it and left unharmed by it’s stubbornness). Anyway, today I am thankful for the start of another summer with my babies. I am ready to dive into this summer with my family. I look forward to learning, experiencing, seeing, traveling, watching, laughing and loving with my tribe.
What are you thankful for today?
So, many of you know I am a huge fan of the amazing artist Kal Barteski. Well, in my hiatus and total immersion of developing this line, I have not had time to check out my fav blogs. I finally revisited my bloglovin page and found that Kal has created some amazing iphone covers with her beautiful script fonts!! There are many wonderful ones to choose from. Unfortunately, I had just purchased a case that I am currently loving from Nordstrom, featuring pretty watercolor artwork of penguins, so I really did not need another case. However, I love Kal’s work and it is very important to me to support other artists that bless us with the beauty of their work and inspire me on the day-to-day. So, I purchased. I chose the case that spoke to me where I am right now, “Be in the Moment.” I had a really hard time selecting, but since I had just purchased a colorful cover, I thought a sleek black & white case would fit the bill. I would love to order more, the “Love” case is still calling my name, and the golden-yellow of the “Make Love Your Motto” case is perfect for summer!! Please check out this link for more info on purchasing one of these beautiful cases. Kal makes no money from the sales of these cases, and neither do I. Just tryin’ to spread the beauty!!
Boy, have I been missing you guys!!! I feel I have been neglecting you, and not by choice! I have been going through a sort of “transitional” period. Both with my business and personal life. This is the last week of school for the kiddies. Yay!/Uh oh! There is a sense of excitement in the air, and also a slight apprehension on my part if I am honest with myself. I am only apprehensive because I know that my normal work day will have to adjust. Working from home is not all it’s cracked up to be. I am thankful for the opportunity, but having an actual dedicated room/office to work from is a must! Right now my bedroom is doing double time and it’s getting old real quick!!!!
But I digress, I am excited about spending unrestricted time with my family and doing fun “summer” things! This past weekend was a whirlwind. Rob ended up in the ER on Saturday night, due to a mishap with his elbow and the tooth of a 5th grader . . . Long story, but he is recovering nicely. On Sunday we went to the NASA Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) Open House. JPL specializes in robotic exploration of the solar system. We got to see 3D representations of the terrain on Mars, remote control robots that are used to scour the Mars surface and even a movie on what life is like on Mars! I did not know there was water on Mars!! Amazing universe we live in!
I am working on tech packs for my line this week. This is the part I generally do not enjoy about my job, but I have been telling myself that I actually DO enjoy this part, and guess what? . . . . its working!!!! ☺ I’m glad to be back and I hope your lives are blessing you daily.
What have you been up to lately? Do share!!! ♥♥♥
Big chunky beautiful rings are my weakness. I fell head over heels for this beauty at first sight. My finger is literally aching to give this treasure a home!!!
